The Installation

Roof DeIcing Installation
Zmesh can be nailed or stapled through, making its installation easier than other systems. Costly and disruptive roof buildups are eliminated with the use of this unique and low profile roof heating element. Roof DeIcing Eave De-Icing

Installation of Roof Deicing System Components

Control Units are mounted to the wall in a cool and moisture-free location. Cold lead is then attached to the transformer, which is inside the control box, and is run to the start of the Zmesh. The Zmesh is soldered to a transition plate, which is butt-spliced to the cold lead. Each control unit can heat an area between 45 and 450 square feet. A 220/240 V. 30 amp breaker is required for each 450 square feet.

9"- wide Zmesh is spaced at 2-3" and rolled out over the area to be heated. Depending on the roofing project, anywhere from 3 to 12 runs of Zmesh may be needed from the roof's edge up. Zmesh can be installed on the entire roof, if desired, to eliminate any snow or ice from accumulating on the roof. A great advantage to our roof deicing system is its versatility. You can roll out the Zmesh into any pattern to heat any sized area desired. The third image down on the right shows how Zmesh was installed to heat the roof above the entry to prevent icicles and ice dams from forming.

Heat Sink Kits are sometimes used when Zmesh cannot be used. Heat Sink Kits are concrete boards with small pre-cut grooves for Tuff Cable. The concrete is used as a heat resistance for the roof heating cable. The bottom right image shows the Heat Sink Kit installed over existing shake shingles. These kits are typically used in retrofit applications but can be installed under roofing material.

The installation of our radiant roof deicing systems is fairly easy compared to other radiant heating systems. Any electrician could install the system. Any roofing contractor could install a majority of the system, and then have an electrician hook up the power to the system. Technical support is available 5 days a week, and the installation manual and system diagrams are available online.
