Finding the Right Radiant Heat Technology

As radiant heating continues to increase in popularity, so have products that claim to be the latest and the greatest. Rather than sift through the volumes of information on various radiant heat solutions, homeowners often leave the decision up to their contractors, assuming that the best system will be chosen for them.

Unfortunately, many contractors are still stuck in the stone age of radiant heat technology and don’t always offer consumers the most cost effective or efficient products available.

Warmzone carries only the best quality, proven radiant products on the market, making it easier for consumers to choose the right radiant heating system. And you can be sure that Warmzone offers systems that feature the latest technology. One advancement in electric radiant heating has resulted in Ideal Heat’s CTR Heating Ribbon. This smart new technology is quickly becoming one of Warmzone’s top selling floor heating systems.

Ideal Heat CTR floor heating ribbon provides efficient heat and easy installation.

Ideal Heat CTR Ribbon
Radiant Floor Heating Mat

The Ribbon incorporates heating mesh within flexible PVC, silicone and rubber sheets that form thin heating ribbons that install under flooring while offering minimal floor build up. The ribbons come in a mat form with pre-spaced rows, making installation as easy as unrolling and securing with the adhesive backing.

Unlike many radiant floor heating systems, there is no need to embed the ribbons in thinset, which makes Ideal Heat the ideal choice for heating carpets and hardwood floors. The floor warming system is available in 12- and 14-watt per square foot options, and 120 or 230 VAC. The ribbons do not require a control system to operate, only a small GFCI protected thermostat, which gives you the ability to install this system anywhere with a power source.

To choose the best radiant heating system for your home or business, consider the following:

  1. What kind of floor are you using?

  2. What is your budget?

  3. Are you going to install the system yourself, or hire an installer?

  4. Do you have enough power in your home or building to run the system?

The answers to these questions will help to determine the best system for your project.

The professionals at Warmzone are happy to help and put you in touch with a qualified installer in your area.

In the Zone with a Warmzone Employee

Our sales team is no stranger to competition, especially when it comes to the position of top salesman (known as the Top Dawg). Jeff Winegar is often seen in the coveted Top Dawg position, which may be explained by his motto “If you want to see a rainbow you need to stand in a little rain.” Getting to the top of the sales team can’t be done without a lot of hard work.

Jeff has worked for Warmzone for three years and continues to be one of our top salesmen. He is committed to providing customers with the answers they need, quickly and accurately. Jeff keeps himself trained on the current products to have the knowledge to solve customers’ problems and keep their projects running smoothly. He enjoys working at Warmzone as an industry leader, professional staff and loyal customers.

Before joining Warmzone, Jeff was employed at McIntosh Communications and worked in the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. He teaches adaptive skiing at a local resort during the winter ski season and loves water skiing in the summer. Unfortunately, his latest water skiing trip left him with a broken ankle. While this may have temporarily slowed his active lifestyle, his sales continue to soar!

When not working, Jeff is spending time with his wife of 10 years, his beautiful 2-year-old daughter and another child on the way. Everyone at Warmzone appreciates his hard work and knows he’ll be up and skiing again soon.

Project Spotlight

Habitat for Humanity

The Habitat for Humanity organization is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry that is committed to building simple, affordable houses for those who lack adequate shelter. In Wyoming Habitat for Humanity built a two-story duplex that needed an adequate, efficient heating system for both levels.

Warmzone’s Bryan Morris worked with Ted Cramer from the Laramie Wyoming Habitat for Humanity to determine the best heating systems for the project. Over eleven locations in the duplex were assessed and Warmzone determined the layouts and products to be used throughout the bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces.

Cramer installed close to 500 square feet of electric radiant heating cables in the areas of the duplex that were using a cement sub-floor.

Regular ground prep for the cement was performed, including placing remesh on MeshUps to hold it midway through-out the concrete. Using quick-ties, the heating cables were evenly spaced and attached to the remesh. The fresh cement was then poured and allowed to set.

The rest of the duplex was completed using Ideal Heat’s CTR Heating Ribbon, which is perfect beneath all kinds of flooring because it does not need to be embedded within concrete or thinset. Installation for the Heating Ribbon is as simple as rolling out the mat, securing the system using the adhesive backing and installing the flooring over the top. When installing hardwood flooring, care must be taken not to drive any nails into the Heating Ribbon.

Warmzone has helped make this Habitat for Humanity project a warm and inviting home for families in need. For more information about Habitat for Humanity, and to find out how you can volunteer in your area, visit www.habitat.org.
