Frequently asked questions about radiant heat

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions - Heat Trace Cable

Product Questions

Q: What types of heating cable do you carry?
A: Warmzone® carries a large variety of both low- and line-voltage heating cables that will work with almost every application and project, including floor heating, radiant space heating, driveway heating, and ice melting on roofs and in gutters. (More info about interior radiant heat and snow melting cables.)

Q: What is the difference between low- and line-voltage heating cables?
A: There are common misperceptions in regards to this question. Learn the facts and don't let some shady radiant heat provider muddy the waters of low- and line-voltage radiant heat systems. Warmzone carries low and line-voltage systems, so we don't have an agenda when selling these systems, but it's important that you understand a little about the two.

The main difference between low and line voltage cables is in how the heating cables are controlled. Low-voltage cables require a control box and transformer, whereas line-voltage cables only require a thermostat. Low-voltage cables are not necessarily safer once embedded in a medium, and operational costs are not any less expensive. Line-voltage cables tend to be less expensive per square foot when heating smaller areas.

Installation Questions

Q: Can your heating cables be installed in the thinset?
ComfortTile® heating cables can be installed in the thinset, whereas the In-Slab™ cables need to be embedded in at least ½-inch of concrete or mortar.

Q: Who installs your systems?
A: Warmzone has a network of independent installers that can assist you with your installation. However, all of our systems come with complete installation manuals and can be installed by any electrician, contractor, or experienced "do-it-yourselfer." An electrician is needed to supply you with the necessary power and to hook up power to your system.

Q: Do you have local dealers?
A: Warmzone sells directly to the end user and can guarantee you premium pricing. Our internal staff of qualified professions can answer your questions and assist you in selecting the best system for your application. Warmzone also sells through certified independent installers that can assist you in your product selection and installation.

Design Questions

Q: Does Warmzone provide detailed layouts for purchased systems?
A: Yes. Warmzone provides detailed layouts for most systems at the price of $0.35 per square foot. (This price is subject to change. Please call 888-488-9276 for more information.)
