How ClearZone Snow Melting Systems Work

ClearZone snow melting systems are among the most trusted radiant heating systems available. Featuring top-of-the-line components and manufacturer warranties - backed by industry leading system design and customer services, homeowners and professional contractors know they are installing the best when dealing with Warmzone.

Overview

  * Prior to the concrete pour, heat cable is laid down and secured to the remesh with wire ties at intervals of 3 to 6 inches. The remesh is supported by plastic Mesh-Ups to keep the remesh elevated, which keeps the heat cable from resting on the ground. ClearZone cable is available on spools or pre-spaced in mats that can be easily rolled out for quick installation. (It is important that the cable is spaced properly and doesn't touch.) In addition to concrete, the heat cable can also be installed in asphalt applications, mortar beds, pavers, thinset and more.
  * When the temperature is below a certain (set) point and the sensor detects precipitation, power is then sent to the heat cable that is embedded in the concrete or asphalt. The ClearZone system quickly distributes heat evenly to the surrounding medium to keep the surface clear of ice and snow.
  * When the activation device (such as the pavement mounted snow sensor below) or aerial sensor automatically detects moisture and the temperature is below the set point (usually 39°Fahrenheit) it signals the system's controller, which activates the snow melting system and warms the driveway.

ClearZone Snow Melting Systems Include:

ClearZone Radiant Heating Cable

Warmzone's ClearZone heat cable features a high quality UL listed cable that can withstand the stress of fresh concrete pours as well as well as the extreme temperature of hot asphalt installations. The single-point connection cable consists of a twin conductor with FEP/XLPE insulation, polyolefin jacketing (providing flexibility and UV protection). The heat cable is rated at 220°F and has a minimum 10-year warranty. ClearZone snow melting cable is designed to produce 30-50 watts per square foot and has the quickest response time of any snow melting system on the market. Durable and versatile, ClearZone heating cable can be installed in virtually all snow melting applications, including concrete, asphalt, and under pavers.

ClearZone Radiant Heating Mats

The ClearZone snow melting mat is among the most effective and easy-to-install radiant snow melting solutions available. The ClearZone heating mat comes with the heat cable pre-spaced and delivered in rolls so it can be rolled out for quick and easy installation while providing proper spacing of the cable to ensure optimum performance. The mats heat an area 2-feet wide.

Designed to be the most durable and versatile heating cable for automated heated driveway systems, the ClearZone radiant heating mat is an ideal solution for virtually any standard shaped outdoor snowmelt application. To make turns with the heating mats simply cut the white tape and turn the mat accordingly. For more details on installing snow melting mats, view our ClearZone Snow Melting Mats Data Sheet, located on our Documentation page or visit our Installing Heated Driveway web page. ClearZone is a proven industry leader.

Snow Sensor Activation Device

ClearZone radiant snow melting systems come standard with an aerial-mounted snow sensor switch. This sophisticated, yet rugged, device automatically signals the ClearZone snowmelt system controller when it detects precipitation and temperatures are below a set point (usually 39°F). Smart system compatible, the aerial snow sensor also features adjustable temperature trigger point, adjustable delay off cycle, and upgradeable remote activation.

The pavement-mounted snow sensor is available for all snow melting systems but is typically used in large commercial applications. ClearZone snow melting systems are fully automated and maintenance free. The control unit features a 4-hour timer that serves as a manual backup to melt snow drifts or ice that may have formed on the driveway due to wind or shade.

Warmzone Snowmelt Control Unit

Used in conjunction with the pavement mount snow sensor, the Warmzone snowmelt control units are small, NEMA 1, wall-mounted control panels. These efficient controllers are approximately 6x3.5 inches. The units have even been designed so that they can be controlled from an external signal (day/week timer, GSM-module or other signal source). The compact snow melting control unit can be switched on/off (standby) and the heating system can be manually turned on in case wind causes snow drifts or ice forms in the shade.

Despite the compact control unit's advanced technology and ease of use, it also represents a breakthrough in that it is significantly cheaper than most other industry controllers. The Warmzone master controller offers maintenance-free, UL listed snow melting for residential and commercial business owners. The controller provides energy-efficient, under-pavement heating to safely and effectively deliver reliable snow and ice melting for sidewalks, driveways and other outdoor applications.
