The Right Solutions for Heating Your Floors

Premier Floor Heating Options

Radiant heat is one of the cleanest and most efficient ways to heat your home or business. Warmzone’s vast selection of industry leading products ensures an ideal solution for any application – from bathrooms and basements to garages and outdoor steps. Warmzone has one of the largest product selections in the industry, helping to ensure that the best system is matched with your specific heating needs.

When considering floor heating, one of Warmzone’s most versatile products is ComfortTile heating cable. Whether used alone or in conjunction with the Prodeso membrane system, you can be sure that your home will be heated efficiently and safely.

Pretty woman on wood floor

The ComfortTile floor heating system is UL listed, and features a single-point connection, twin-conductor cable that is rated at 120 or 240 volts. This cable is durable and safety approved for wet locations. ComfortTile heat cable is flexible and can be used in almost any application, as it is available on large spools or pre-spaced in mats. ComfortTile mats are 18-inches wide, but heat a 24-inch wide area. These mats come with an adhesive on the mesh backing, so they are easily installed onto the subfloor, making them a quick and efficient way to install radiant heat for most types of flooring. To ensure your cable or mats keep your floor warm for years to come, ComfortTile heat cable also comes with an industry leading 25-year warranty.

ComfortTile heat cable can also be used in conjunction with Warmzone’s innovative Prodeso membrane system. The Prodeso membrane is a polypropylene uncoupling crack isolation waterproofing membrane that is used for heating floors or other surfaces that do not have movement or expansion joints in the screed. These unique qualities make it possible to install floor heating over what can be difficult substrates, such as plywood. The membrane has rounded square shaped reliefs that create channels that are specifically spaced and designed to embed ComfortTile heat cable. Prodeso membranes are a great choice for ceramic tile or other flooring surfaces that are prone to cracking, or areas such as a bathroom that have high levels of moisture. The Prodeso membrane is also extremely low profile, with a thickness of only ¼-inch, making it ideal for any application. The flexible, lightweight Prodeso membrane makes it a good choice where the load bearing capacity of a sub-floor may be a limitation.

Installing the Prodeso membrane is easy. The membrane comes on rolls, and is laid directly on top of the subfloor. Once the membrane is laid out, the ComfortTile heat cable is installed through the channels of the membrane. The flooring can then be installed directly on top of the membrane. The unique design of the Prodeso membrane makes it extremely versatile. It can be used simply as a membrane to protect flooring, or cable can be installed into the membrane to heat specific areas. The ability to customize heating zones makes Prodeso a great way to ensure your radiant heated floors are energy efficient. Prodeso membrane can also be used on areas such as walls, and in outdoor applications, as it is safe under all weather conditions.

Installing heat cable in the Prodeso membrane

ComfortTile heat cable is one of the most popular floor heating options on the market. Customers love the convenience of the pre-spaced mats, as well as cable off the spool. The system is efficient, reliable and versatile, which is why it remains a top floor heating choice for home and business owners today.

If the ComfortTile or Prodeso membrane system isn’t the right fit for your project, another popular option is Warmzone’s FilmHeat system. This system utilizes an ultra thin heating element that is UL approved and includes a 10 year warranty. FilmHeat is a great value for any home, especially when installing under floating or laminate flooring. FilmHeat is simply cut to size on site, laid out directly under the laminate, and then the electrical connections are secured before finally installing the flooring directly over FilmHeat. FilmHeat has no floor build up and efficiently heats any area. The RetroHeat version of the FilmHeat floor heating system is also a great choice for those looking to install radiant heat under existing flooring. If you can access the joists from below, heating panels are stapled between the floor joists. After the FilmHeat is stapled, Batt insulation is installed over the element to ensure that all the heat goes upward. FilmHeat is a great, affordable choice for any home – and a favorite of those installing floating floors.

Warmzone has many other radiant floor heating options available as well. Warmzone’s low-voltage FloorHeat STEP system features a unique, self-regulating polymer heating element to provide even, energy-efficient, comfortable warmth for hardwood or laminate floors. If your project involves concrete, In-Slab heat cable is an exceptional choice that can be installed directly in the new concrete slab. This durable cable is embedded in the concrete about 1 to 2-inches below the surface to distribute heat evenly across the entire area. FoilHeat is another trusted floor heating option. This system has thin cables that are sandwiched between two layers of reinforced aluminum foil. If you’re looking to heat a large area, a hydronic system that pushes heated liquid through special tubing may be a good choice because of its potential for lower operating costs.

Whatever your floor heating project may be, Warmzone has a proven product to fit your needs and your budget. Customer service specialists are available to help you pick out the perfect product and answer any questions over the phone. Warmzone also has profession system designers who will layout your system and provide all the information needed for your electrician to assure that your system operates efficiently and safely. Free installation training is also available online with an experienced instructor.

Custom Snow Melting Options

Snow melting systems are an efficient, reliable, and easy way to keep your home or business safe and snow free in the winter. Warmzone provides top-quality components that provide versatile options for any customer. With Warmzone, industry leading products like ClearZone snow melting systems can be used in almost any home or business application. Systems can be installed under almost any medium , whether it’s concrete, brick pavers, or even hot asphalt with special snow melting cable, making customization even easier.

Warmzone’s fully automated snow melting systems include a heating element, an activation device, and a contactor panel. These systems use the activation device to detect a set temperature or moisture, and then the contactor panel sends a signal to the embedded heat cable, which begins heating the driveway to ensure it remains free of snow and ice. ClearZone electric snowmelt cable is among the best in the industry, and is available on a roll or pre-spaced in mats. ClearZone cable is considered one of the best in the industry not just because of its versatility but its rugged durability, making it a great choice for customized projects.

Heated steps and entryway

One of the first areas people think about when installing a snow melting system is their driveway. There are many options when it comes to heating a driveway. You can heat an entire paved driveway or sidewalk, or have your snow melting system custom designed and tailored to your specifications. Heating an 8 foot strip in the middle of your driveway is an option if you prefer not to heat an entire area, or even have two 24-inch wide tire tracks installed. This is a popular option because of its affordability and low operation costs. Another option for those not wanting to heat an entire area is to simply heat trouble spots. Inclines or shaded areas, or areas where snow drifts tend to form may be ideal for a radiant snow melting system. Heating a high traffic area is also a great option for homes, whether that’s your front sidewalk, your entry stairs, or a specific area of a driveway.

Driveways aren’t the only place that electric snowmelt systems can be installed. Snow melting systems are a great investment for businesses owners. Radiant heat can be installed at outdoor malls to increase safety and keep business steady during cold winter months. Commercial sidewalks as well as entryways are also great places to install snow melting systems to protect customers from wet feet and slipping on ice. Warmzone’s snow melting systems have been installed in large commercial applications for businesses around the country.

The level of customization that Warmzone’s snow melting systems offer makes them great for many other applications. State and federal government agencies trust Warmzone electric snow melt systems to keep their buildings warm and safe. Other agencies, such as metropolitan transit authorities also utilize the benefits of industry leading customization to heat train platforms as well as bus stops, enhancing safety for commuters every winter. Warmzone’s snow melting systems are also a great choice to prevent ice and snow buildup on pedestrian bridges and ramps, and are utilized by departments of transportation in states across the country.

With their versatility, Warmzone’s snow melting systems have also been used in unusual areas such as airports, or to provide safety by eliminating snow and ice on runaway truck ramps. Other unusual applications include industrial facilities or refineries. Whatever application your business has, a Warmzone snow melting system is a great option.

On top of state-of-the-art components and versatility, Warmzone’s snow melting systems also include industry leading customer service to help you design the perfect system for any home or business. An experienced system designer will help you design the perfect layout to accommodate your needs, using the best products, as well as provide real time installation support. Warmzone provides free installation training services as well, which ultimately saves you time and money in the long run. They’ll stand by you during every step of installation. Warmzone also maintains relationships with top rated installers throughout the country, so we may be able to recommend a trusted electrician and installer in your area. Warmzone specialists are happy to help you with any questions, and with industry leading system design services, each radiant heat system can be installed and working at peak efficiency in no time. ClearZone Snow Melting Systems

Snow melting systems may not be the first thing on your mind when the weather is beautiful and warm, but spring is a great time to install a snow melting system. There are a lot of options when it comes to snow melting systems, but Warmzone’s ClearZone Snow melting system is one of the best options available on the market today. When you work with Warmzone, choosing and installing an efficient and reliable snow melting system for your home or business is always easy and stress free.

The ClearZone snow melting system is a fully automated system that consists of three main components: the heating cable, an activation device (snow sensor), and a contactor panel. When the temperature hits the set point and precipitation is detected, the sensor signals the contactor panel, and power is sent to the embedded heat cable. These components work together to ensure each snow melting system operates only when needed, to quickly and efficiently melt snow and ice.

Heated pavers at outdoor mall.

The first component; heat cable, is possibly the most important. Warmzone’s ClearZone Snow Melting Cable is an industry leading cable that is trusted for residential and commercial radiant heat installations around the country. ClearZone cable is a high-quality single-point connection twin-conductor cable that is trusted by installers throughout the country. The twin conductor is housed in fluoropolymer insulation, a copper metal sheathing, and then a polyolefin outer casing, making it one of the most durable cables on the market. It can be used under almost any medium- from pavers to concrete, and even hot asphalt applications. The cable is rated at 120-600 volts, and has an output of 12 W per foot.  The cable is also CSA listed for the U.S. and Canada, and comes with a 10-year limited warranty.

ClearZone heating cable is also extremely versatile, available off spools, or pre-spaced in mats. ClearZone cable is the best choice for installations that need more installation flexibility, such as oddly shaped areas. It can be easily laid out in any custom shaped area. The cable is available in multiple lengths, and can be customized to meet the specifics of your project, making it easy to heat any area, no matter the shape or size.

ClearZone Radiant Snow melting mats come with heat cable pre-spaced for the demands of the application. These mats are rolled out for quick and easy installation. The mats are also rated at 120-600 V and feature an output of 37 W per foot squared and 50 W per square foot. These mats make installation for large snow melting applications quick and easy.

ClearZone heat cable is also extremely durable. Not only can it be put under pavers or concrete, but a specially designed version can withstand the high heat of a fresh asphalt pour. The external jacket is rated to withstand 460°F for up to 10 minutes. The asphalt is poured directly over the cable (or mats). Snow melting mats can be purchased in lengths of 11, 30, 51, 65, or 80 feet, making mats a great choice for almost any application. (Custom lengths can also be ordered.) ClearZone for asphalt is a good choice for new pours, but driveways or walkways can be retrofitted as well. Both ClearZone cable and mats provide a maintenance free, efficient, and safe way to keep walkways, driveways, parking areas, ramps, or loading docks safely free of snow and ice.

Deciding whether cable or mats are best for your project can be a difficult decision, but when you purchase top of the line products from Warmzone, you also receive industry leading customer service. At Warmzone, customer service begins with a professional designer to help you every step of the way: from picking out the appropriate products, to the layout of your system, to providing installation training and technical support as you begin your install. Warmzone has customer service professionals available to help you any time. These professionals can help you with all the services to help ensure a successful installation. Services include online instructional videos, free installation training, professional system design and personal installation support, Warmzone is with you every step of the way. Working with Warmzone means not only will you receive quality components, but also comprehensive high-quality customer service.

Radiant snow melting systems can also extend the life of your driveway. Because radiant heat not only keeps your driveway from sub-zero temperatures, it also dries the pavement after a storm, helping to greatly reduce the chance of spalling. Because concrete is porous, water from melted snow that refreezes can lead to spalling, and ultimately cracking of the concrete. Heated driveways dramatically reduce the chances of this scenario.

Luxury Home Heating Amenities

Spring is finally here, and that means spring cleaning, which is a great time for small in-home projects. There’s no better way to spruce up your home than adding some amenities to keep it warm and welcoming all year long, especially when the weather gets cool. At Warmzone, there are more radiant heat options than heated flooring, and they can be used to enhance your comfort in any area of your home. Warmzone offers useful state-of-the-art bathroom and kitchen amenities that make a spring update or DIY project. Warmzone’s amenities are not only simple to install but can add luxurious comfort to your home life.

One of Warmzone’s popular amenities, especially for kitchens, is the FeelsWarm® Stick-on countertop heaters. This discreet, elegant heating solution keeps any countertop area warm, comfortable and inviting. Warmzone’s FeelsWarm countertop heaters can be installed on kitchen islands, counters, vanities, overhangs, office desks, bars, or even office applications such as reception desks. The thin heating element (only .025-inch thick) sticks to the underside of the counter making install painless, and the perfect day project for any homeowner.

Heated countertop with curved overhang

Each system includes a thermal controller and low-voltage heating element. These heating mats operate with a passive warming system, which means once the heater is activated it slowly warms up the countertop. The heaters are designed to gradually warm the countertops about 20-25 degrees over a period of about 90 minutes. This slow warming process – and lack of temperature pulsing – is a safety feature that prevents shocking the stone.

The countertop heaters with FeelsWarm technology are also very efficient. The cost to operate a 4-square foot countertop heater continuously is about the same as using a 75-watt light bulb, keeping operating costs at a minimum – about 20-25 cents a day.

The heating mats are available in several standard sizes, but customers can also custom order a countertop heating system to fit their unique counters or island. No matter the size or shape of your countertop, these heating mats can be configured to fit angles, curves, or any shape you may need.  Warmzone FeelsWarm Technology is a great way to add safe, comfortable heat to any stone countertop surface.

If your bathroom could use a refresh, another great amenity offered by Warmzone are the Runtal towel warmers and bathroom radiators. These attractive units are energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing, adding luxury and convenience to the bathroom. There are multiple model types and sizes to ensure customers find the best match for their bathroom.

Bathroom radiator with towel warmer

These efficient towel warmers are also designed to provide warmth for bathrooms as well. These radiators are 120 volts, and come with a direct wire installation, or a plug-in version that has a unique five-setting digital control, including a timer for up to 3 hours. Not only do these radiators keep your bathroom and towels warm, but they also offer the benefit of keeping the area dry, reducing the risk of mold and mildew in bathrooms.

Another great option for bathrooms are Warmzone’s ClearMirror™ fog-free bathroom mirrors. These heated mirrors come with a low voltage transformer and a thin, low voltage pad that is mounted on the reverse side of the mirror. These panels slowly heat your mirror to prevent mist and fog from forming, so you can go through your morning routine hassle free. These mirrors also have the option of adding panels of built-in LED lights to add more light to your bathroom. Warmzone’s ClearMirrors are made in the USA, and are designed for installation in vanities, bathrooms and showers.

In addition to the mist-free operation, these stunning mirrors include the added benefit of LED light panels built into the sides of the mirror that simulate natural daylight and are rated for 70,000 hours.

Warmzone’s Body ClearMirror or The Grand Body ClearMirror measures at 20×36, with a heated area of 16×30 inches, while the Grand Body ClearMirror is 5 feet tall and 2½ feet wide. Both mirrors include LED lighting and add a luxurious feel to any bathroom. All shower mirrors are mounted flush to the shower surface to ensure a professional look and feel. These mirrors can also be custom modified if homeowners have special requests.

If heating a vanity mirror is a better option, Warmzone also offers the Original ClearMIrror Vanity Mirror, ClearLite Vanity Mirror, or the Studio Series ClearMIrror. The original ClearMIrror is a 120-volt mirror with the defogger attached, and an excellent, affordable option for any homeowner. This mirror can be ordered in multiple colors, and each is custom made to specifications.

Heat Your Hardwood Floors

One of the best ways to spruce up your home is to upgrade old dated floors. Hardwood is a beautiful, classic choice that will stand the test of time and bring new life into your home. And while you’re upgrading the floors in your home, why not consider upgrading your heating system as well?

While you’re upgrading your home with beautiful new hardwood, how about upgrading your home with luxurious radiant heat as well? Radiant heat is an excellent investment that will keep your home warm for years to come. The systems can be installed to serve as your primary heating source or to complement your existing system by adding comfortable warmth to the most popular areas of your home.

Kids on a heated hardwood floor

Radiant heated floors have many benefits. Floor heating systems provide cleaner, more efficient warmth than forced air systems. Because no blower is required, radiant heat systems operate quietly and no dust or other allergens are circulated throughout the home. Radiant heat is commonly used alongside traditional heating systems to add warmth to specific areas, such as a kitchen, bathroom, or playroom. The systems are easy to customize, not only to heat specific areas, but to accommodate your budget as well. Radiant heat systems are available to any homeowner, whether they are building a new home, remodeling, or adding heat to their current flooring.

When working with Warmzone, there are also options suitable for heating existing floors, including RetroHeat and STEP FloorHeat. These efficient systems require access to the floor joists from below. RetroHeat, the most popular option, features near paper-thin heating elements that are stapled up between the joists, followed by Batt insulation being stapled up over the heating element to drive all the heat upward to warm the floor.

STEP FloorHeat is a low-voltage system that is installed similarly, but utilizes thin, flexible polymer heating panels. Installers can staple through the heating element, simplifying and speeding up the installation process.

Given Warmzone’s large selection of floor heating systems, customers can be assured of being matched with the ideal system for their specific needs. In addition to heating hardwood floors, radiant floor heating systems can be installed under virtually any other type of floor, including tile, marble, engineered wood, laminates, carpet, slate, and more.

Most radiant heat systems are compatible with hardwood flooring, but some types of wood flooring are better suited to radiant heat. These include solid wood floors made from woods such as cherry, walnut, or mesquite, engineered wood flooring, floating floors, or even laminated or engineered floors. When choosing a wood floor for radiant heat, strip flooring can be a better choice than plank, as smaller wood boards contract less.

Most radiant heat systems are compatible with wood flooring, but some types of wood flooring are better suited to radiant heat. These include solid wood floors made from woods such as cherry, walnut, or mesquite, engineered wood flooring, floating floors, or even laminated or engineered floors. When choosing a wood floor for radiant heat, strip flooring can be a better choice than plank, as smaller wood boards contract less.

When considering pairing radiant heat with your new wood flooring, one of Warmzone’s most popular systems is the industry leading ComfortTile. This is one of the most versatile systems, as it is suitable for all standard sub-flooring materials. ComfortTile Radiant heat cable is also safety approved for wet areas, making it a perfect choice to put under your new hardwood kitchen floor. ComfortTile is available in two formats: pre-spaced cable in mats or floor heating cable off the spool. ComfortTile heat cable is top of the line UL/CSA approved twin conducting cable with ground fault protection, and carries a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty. Cables are rated at 120 or 240 volts and have an 1/8- inch diameter. Cable comes on large spools, and is a great choice for custom projects, as any adjustments to spacing can be made during installation. After installation, cables are activated by a thermostat, allowing for quick (30-60 minutes) and efficient floor heating.

For larger areas and quicker installation, ComfortTile heat cable is also available in convenient mats. These mats include the durable radiant heat cable pre-spaced and attached to a fiberglass mesh with adhesive backing. Mats are available in different lengths, and heat an area 24 inches wide. ComfortTile radiant heating mats are also UL listed and come with a 25-year limited warranty. The thin cable results in low profile (3/16-inch) mats that are easy to install when putting in new flooring. Simply roll out the mats, cut the mesh backing as necessary to make turns (avoid cutting the cable itself), and use the adhesive backing to secure the mats to the subfloor. ComfortTile is easy to install, effective, and energy efficient, making it one of the most trusted systems on the market.

Another trusted option for heating your new hardwood floor is FilmHeat. Warmzone’s FilmHeat heating element is one of the thinnest available and is installed quickly and easily without any floor buildup. FilmHeat is simply cut to fit the appropriate area and attached to the subfloor. This system is also UL approved, and comes with a 10-year warranty. It is available in 24, 36, or 48- inch widths, and 120 or 240 voltage, and only measure .016 inch thick. Warmzone’s FilmHeat system also has no moving parts, making it virtually maintenance free after installation. FilmHeat is one of the most cost-efficient systems, with 99 percent of its energy converted directly into heat. FilmHeat also has lower installation and operation costs, making it a great option for those who may be on a budget when installing new floors.

When installing wood flooring, Warmzone’s assortment of top of the line products assures there is an option for any application. Warmzone also offers customer service that can’t be beat. Versatile Snow Melting Systems

Efficient and Easy-to-Customize Warmzone Radiant Heat Systems

Snow melting systems are an affordable investment in safe, convenient warmth for any home or business.  When purchasing a radiant snow meting system, the first and possibly most important step is ensuring that the system has high quality components that will stand the test of time, and allow the system to function at peak efficiency. ClearZone snow melting systems from Warmzone are fully automated and function with three main components that work together to assure the heated area is clear 24/7, making winter safer and more hassle free.

Heated asphalt tire tracks

The first component of a ClearZone snow melting systems is industry leading ClearZone radiant heat cable. This UL listed, twin-conductor cable is rugged and versatile, and features single point connection for easy installation. CZ cable consists of a FEP/XLPE insulation, polyolefin jacketing to provide flexibility and protection from UV damage. The heat cable produces 30-50 watts per square foot, and is rated at 220°F. This durable cable is commonly used in fresh concrete pours, under pavers, and in asphalt. The cable used for hot asphalt applications is specially designed to withstand the heat and stress of asphalt applications. This special CZ cable is rated at 460°F for up to 10 minutes.

ClearZone heat cable comes on spools or pre-spaced in mats. Cable off the spool is easily installed into custom shaped areas and is the best choice for installations that require more flexibility; such as intricate or odd shaped areas. For more traditionally shaped areas or for quicker installations, radiant heating mats are used.

ClearZone radiant heating mats come with heat cable pre-spaced (3 or 4-inch spacing available) on 2-foot wide mats. The backing tape, pre-spacing and forming the cable into mats can be cut to accommodate turns and layout needs, providing quick and easy installation. Both radiant heating cable and mats come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty, and is backed by unparalleled customer support services from Warmzone.

The activation device (snow sensor) is the second integral part of any snow melting system. The device works by sensing precipitation and the temperature, and only activates the system when it is needed. When the device senses the set temperature (usually set at 38° or 39°F) and precipitation, it signals the master controller, which then powers the heating element. Activation devices can be mounted in the surface of the area to be heated, or aerially to detect weather conditions. The aerial-mounted snow sensor allows adjustment of the temperature trigger point, the delay off cycle, and can be upgraded for remote activation. The sensor is also compact and easy to install and is compatible with smart systems. In ground sensors are typically more common for large commercial applications. In-ground sensors use a small control unit instead of a contactor panel, allowing for control from an external signal. The control unit can be switched on/off (standby) and the heating system can be turned on manually to deal with snow drifts or if ice should form in the shade.

The final component of a ClearZone Snow melting system is the contactor panel. This unit receives the signal from the sensor and powers the heating element embedded under the surface. At Warmzone, contactor panels come with or without Ground Fault Equipment Protection.  When equipped with GFEP, fault risk and extra steps and costs of installation are minimized. Warmzone’s contactor panels work with aerial activation devices and come with a 2-year limited warranty.

The versatility of ClearZone Snow melting systems allows installation in almost any medium and application. Some of Warmzone’s snow melting system installations include:

Driveways

Sidewalks

Public transit (bus stops / train platforms)

Winter resorts

Hospital entrances

Churches

Shopping centers, malls (entryways, parking areas and ramps)

Ring in the New Year with the Luxurious Warmth of Radiant Heat

The new year is the perfect time to make those upgrades to your home or business you’ve been waiting for. Installing radiant heated floors can be an affordable project that gives any space a feeling of luxury and comfort. If questions about whether radiant heated floors are right for your home have been stopping you from moving forward, here are some answers to help you make the best decision in 2020.

Woman in sunlight on warm floor

Radiant heated floors from Warmzone feature top-of-the-line components that are easy to install and easy to operate. Each system features a heating element, a sensor, and an activation device (thermostat). Warmzone offers the best thermostats in the industry. A variety of thermostats are available, ranging from fully programmable thermostats with an in-floor and ambient temperature sensor to simple on/off thermostats with a single temperature sensor. The programmable feature allows homeowners to program the heating system according to their daily and weekly schedule.

Floor heating system thermostats coordinate with sensors to keep the floor at optimum temperature. Sensors are available that sense floor temperature (embedded in the floor) or air temperature in the room, depending on your preference. The popular ComfortTile TOUCH floor heating thermostat is programmable and controls the temperature of the system with either an in-floor or external (ambient) sensor. This advanced thermostat is engineered to ensure that the floor heating system operates efficiently and economically. All of Warmzone’s floor heating thermostats include an integrated Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI, Class A).

Radiant floor heating offers many benefits. Because the systems operate silently, without the need for blowers and duct work, they help prevent the spread of dust, allergens and other particles, keeping the environment cleaner than a forced air system. This is especially beneficial for those with allergies or respiratory problems.

Radiant heat is also the most efficient technology today for heating homes and businesses. Each room with a floor heating system is controlled by its own thermostat, giving the homeowner precise control over the temperature in individual spaces and further adding to the system’s efficiency. Depending on local utility rates, radiant heat can cost less to run than a standard heating system, while providing more luxurious warmth.

With its vast selection of heated floor options, Warmzone makes it easy to find the ideal system for just about any application. Warmzone also custom designs each floor heating system to best meet the customer’s specific needs. The experienced design team provides professional layout and design services so your electrician has all the layout and electrical information necessary to ensure a successful installation.

When choosing a floor heating system, the biggest difference is the heating element. Heating elements come in a variety of forms at Warmzone, such as low-voltage panels, paper-thin sheets, reflective insulated panels, heat resistance cable, and more. ComfortTile heating cable is the most popular and versatile option for heating homes and businesses, and is available off the spool or pre-spaced in flexible mats with an adhesive backing. The twin-conductor heating cable is pre-terminated for simple installation and is only ⅛-inch in diameter, resulting in minimal floor buildup. ComfortTile heat cable also has ground fault protection (GFCI) and does not emit any measurable electromagnetic fields, making it a safe, reliable choice. With this cable, any spacing or coverage adjustments can be made onsite, making it perfect for custom areas where flexibility is needed. Warmzone’s online training is invaluable for the proper installation of a radiant heat system. Warmzone can also connect you with a qualified installer for your project to further ensure that your system is installed correctly.

The next important step for installation is making sure to hire a licensed and reliable electrician. While you can complete much of the installation on your own, you must hire an electrician to complete the wiring for your project (for warranty purposes). An electrician can also verify the amperage available at your home, which will ensure your system will run efficiently and effectively. (This should be the first thing homeowners do.) Verifying the amperage with a qualified electrician and having one available to help finish the installation process will prevent future issues with your radiant heat system. If you have purchased with Warmzone, you know your components are top of the line- but it crucial to complete the installation with a verified electrician to ensure your components will function properly. At Warmzone, the experts know products are only as good as their installation, which is why customer service professionals are available at anytime to assist you during the installation, and can help you locate an experienced electrician for your project.

Heated driveway with four heated tire tracks

After you have completed your training and verified the amperage for your project with an electrician you can begin installation. For a heated driveway system, you will have the following components: a heating element (such as heating cable or mats), a control panel, and an activation device. An activation device is an aerial or pavement mounted sensor which detects temperature and precipitation to activate the system when needed.

The first step in installation will be laying out your heating cable or mat. While this is not a hard process, there are a few important rules that must be followed. When installing, be sure to never cut or damage your cable. Cutting or compromising the heating cable or mats will ruin the product, and your system will not function. It is also critical when laying heating cable that the cables are not touching, and are spaced according to the layout (usually 3 or 4 inches apart). For heating concrete driveways and sidewalks, the cable must be secured to the remesh (with zip ties) that is supported by Mesh-Up plastic chairs for optimum performance. The Mesh-Ups keep the remesh and heat cable from being pushed down to the ground during the concrete pour. Ideally, the heat cable should be about 2 inches from the surface being heated. When the cable is installed it is important to test the cable during different phases of the installation and make sure it has not been damaged and is functioning properly (refer to installation manual).

You have some options when it comes to the snow sensor / activation device. You can install an aerial-mount activation device, typically mounted slightly above the roof line, or a ground-mount snow sensor that is placed in the pavement where it is exposed to the elements. The system is connected to the control panel, which is usually mounted on a wall in the garage. It is important to have a qualified electrician complete the wiring for your system. After this is done, you will be ready to use your new radiant heat system.

Warmzone’s customer service is available to you at anytime throughout the installation process. If you complete your online training and still have questions, you can access installation guides online. June HotNews – The Importance of Proper Installation

Radiant heat has recently come into the spotlight as an efficient and cost friendly method to heat almost any area. It is a product for both businesses and consumers that allows safety, flexibility, and comfort. From interior applications like heated floors to snow melting systems like Warmzone’s industry leading ClearZone snow melting system, there are many ways a radiant heat system can improve your home or business in the cold winter months. Knowing how a radiant heat system works and what components are needed are some of the first steps in purchasing a system, but the most important aspect of the process is installation. That’s why Warmzone offers free installation training for installers.

Scissors and cable - Never cut the heat cable
Never cut the heat cable! To make turns, cut the white binding tape and arrange the cable accordingly.

Proper installation is crucial to ensure a radiant system functions safely and as intended. Proper installation also ensures the longevity and optimum performance of the system. Since the correct installation is so important, get started here with some information from the experts at Warmzone to help assure your installation goes smoothly.

A properly installed radiant heat system begins with the components. When installing radiant heat under flooring, a heating element is the first component needed. Warmzone’s ComfortTile heat cable is perfect for custom floor heating projects. The heat cable is available on spools or pre-spaced in easy-to-roll-out mats. These mats are simply rolled out and laid over the subflooring. Keep in mind that when installing the cable/mats, it is important that the cable is never cut or damaged.

Radiant floor heating systems are then controlled with programmable thermostats and a sensor for temperature control. After cables or mats have been laid out and secured, a licensed electrician must connect the wiring and complete your installation. (This is to ensure that your warranty remains valid.)

With Warmzone’s ComfortTile floor heating systems, superior components are standard. ComfortTile cable and mats are suitable for almost any flooring, and Warmzone’s programmable thermostats are designed specifically for radiant heat systems. They are simple to use and include an installation wizard for a quick and painless installation. A thermostat from Warmzone also allows for troubleshooting by exporting your information to the web for technical support.

Automated snow melting systems require heating cable, a contactor panel, and an aerial or in-ground sensor. These systems use the aerial or in-ground sensor to detect precipitation and temperature. When weather conditions warrant, the sensor triggers the system and power is sent to the heat cables. The system runs until the area is clear and then automatically shuts down. Aerial sensors are used for most home installations, while in-ground sensors are more often used for commercial applications. This makes an automated system a great way to save time, increase safety, and keep power costs low.

An automated snow meting system can require extra consideration when installing, so it is important to work with a provider that includes complete system design and layout services. This includes the proper materials and information necessary for the electrician, such as load calculations, breaker sizes and number of breakers. By working with Warmzone you’ll be completely prepared before any installation takes place.

The ClearZone snow melting system is a proven industry leader, and includes unrivaled installation support from Warmzone. These systems can be put into driveways, sidewalks, steps, loading ramps, or just about any area that needs to be heated. When choosing and installing a snow melting system, it is important to make certain that you are using high quality, versatile, and sturdy components. At Warmzone, ClearZone snow melting heat cable is also available on spools for custom configurations, or mats for larger areas.

Warmzone’s ClearZone snow melting heat cable is a twin conductor resistance heat cable that allows it to be installed into almost any medium. Special ClearZone cable is also available for installation in high temperature asphalt applications.

Installing a heated asphalt driveway

Great products will only work if an installation is done completely and properly. When laying out the cable for your system, it should be done carefully. Installers should be careful with the use of items such as metal rakes that may damage your cable. It is important once again to be sure you do not cut the cable, and the cables are spaced properly and never touching. (Generally, cables should be 3-4 inches apart, depending on your system.) The cables must be properly secured to the remesh as well.

To keep the cable from resting on the ground, place MeshUps plastic chairs under the remesh. These supports keep the cable off the ground during concrete pours and ideally, keeps the cable 2 inches from the surface being heated. This step prevents suboptimal performance and will help maintain the soundness of the cable in your snow melting system. If your cables are touching or not installed appropriately it can ruin the cable and make your system inoperable. Another important way to avoid an inoperable system is to test your cables when you receive them, as well as throughout installation.

When installing your aerial sensor, it is important for proper functioning that the sensor is unobstructed from the weather, so it can accurately detect temperature and precipitation. After installing your snow melting system or any radiant heat system purchased from Warmzone, fill out your warranty card. This is a step that many customers forget.

When considering a snow melting system, the process of purchasing and installing begins with the design. This is where working with experienced professionals pays off. Warmzone’s design and engineering services are second to none, which is one more reason why construction professionals regularly turn to Warmzone when it comes to installing radiant heat.

While designing a snow melting system may seem like a simple matter of using the proper components, the fact is that quality components are only a small part of the process. Radiant heating systems are only as good as their installations, so proper design is crucial. Successful installations are made easier with well thought out and planned designs, which are key to the system’s proper performance.

There are important factors that must be taken into consideration when designing a snow melting system. Some of the initial factors that should be considered are the available power and the square footage of the area to be heated. These factors can help determine the operating cost of the system, which is usually less than hiring a professional snow removal service. (A simple formula to determine operating cost has been included below.)

In regards to the power requirements, homeowners should be familiar with the following basic guidelines. One 30-amp breaker supplies enough power to heat a 170-square foot area. To heat a driveway of 350-square feet, two 30-amp breakers (or one 60-amp breaker) would be needed. Homeowners can check their home’s main breaker panel to see the power coming into the house. (Typical homes feature either two 100 amp panels or two 200 amp breakers. These are located at the top of the main breaker box above the main breaker panel.) But when looking to install radiant heat, the bottom line when it comes to power requirements is that an electrician is ultimately the one to address all the power issues. If you have questions about available power, contact Warmzone and we’ll be happy to assist you.

After you have measured the area that needs to be heated and evaluated your power availability, it’s time to consider the system’s location and weather conditions. This includes altitude, average snowfall, and average winter temperature. Using these factors will help determine what layout and components will be best suited to your project. The basic components needed for an automated snow melting system include an aerial- or pavement-mount snow sensor, a heating element, and master controller. A good design will also include all the breaker and power-related information for the system.

Determining the Operating Cost of a Heated Driveway

  1. Determine the total square footage of the area that will be heated. (The average American home has an 800-square foot driveway.)
  2. Multiply the square footage by the heat required (37 watts per sq. ft. for residential). This will give you a total for the watts per square footage required.
  3. Divide this number by 1,000 to convert to kilowatts.
  4. Look up the kilowatts-per-hour rate from the local power utility company.
  5. Multiply the total watts-per-square footage by the watts-per-hour. This gives you the cost-per-hour of usage for the snow melting system.

EXAMPLE (for an 800-square foot driveway): 800 (sq.ft.) x 37 (watts) = 29,600 (total watts).
29,600 divided by 1,000 = 29.6 kw per hour (This is what the power company will charge you per one hour of operation.) The average utility rate is .12 cents, therefore: 29.6 x .12 = $3.55. The cost of operation would be $3.55 per hour.

NOTE: Heating cables and mats are rated in total watts. If the snowmelt system is intended for a commercial application, then you would multiply the total square footage by 50 watts to determine the total wattage required.
